Teeth whitening involves the removal of stains and discolouration through a bleaching process, enhancing their brightness. At our practice, we utilize the ZOOM! Advance Power Teeth procedure and also offer ZOOM! Take Home Tooth Whitening Kits.

What is Philips ZOOM! Teeth Whitening technology?

ZOOM! tooth whitening is a specialised treatment aimed at lightening tooth colour using a combination of hydrogen peroxide gel and a specially designed ultraviolet lamp. As the hydrogen peroxide breaks down, oxygen penetrates the enamel and dentin, bleaching yellowing teeth while maintaining the tooth's structure.

The procedure takes approximately 60 to 90 minutes. During this time, a whitening gel is applied to the teeth, and the teeth are exposed to the Zoom! Lamp for four 15-minute sessions. Throughout the treatment, a plastic retractor is used to keep the mouth open and protect soft tissues from the gel and light exposure. Lip balm is provided as needed, and protective eyewear is supplied. Prior to the ZOOM! treatment, any cavities or leaking fillings may require restoration.

Custom-made take-home trays may also be provided to patients for further treatment. We recommend wearing these trays with the supplied gel for one hour in the morning and evening for three days. This regimen can further enhance initial results, and periodic use can help maintain the desired tooth shade.

Post-procedure, it's important to note that the tooth enamel may be more susceptible to staining for a few days. To preserve your whitening results, it's advisable to avoid foods and beverages known to stain teeth, including tea, coffee, red wine, soft drinks, berries, curries, beetroot, and smoking.

It's also important to note that darkly stained yellow or yellow-brown teeth often achieve better results than grey or bluish-grey teeth.
